Facebook marketing and advertising

Getting started on Facebook...

First of all, you will need a personal account to do anything on Facebook so if you don't have one sign up one with your real name and information. Don't worry you don't need to make public your personal information.

The second thing you wanna do is create a Facebook PAGE for either yourself if you are the brand (like a consultant, actor, musician, athlete...) or for your business with your business name.

Then before you do anything you want to make a great deal of quality content on that Facebook page and make it available for everyone for FREE!

What kind of content? Videos, photos, posts you name it.

A great book I recommend is: Gary Vaynerchuk: Jab Jab Jab Right hook!

You want to make valuable content before anybody will care about your page.

Start to promote your Facebook page

First thing you can do of course is if you already have your website you wanna put a link on that website to all of your social media accounts including to your Facebook page. Also you should link all those social media accounts together so if somebody finds you on either one will be able to find your other social media accounts and follow you there, too.

After you have some following and you constantly put out quality content to your page you will see some of those posts do significantly better than others. And guess what? Those are the ones you want to use as ads.

So what do you do?

Under your post you will probably find a button saying something like "Boost post" so that's where you can get started.

Targeting your Facebook ads

Targetting is getting better and better on Facebook every day, right now you can literally target the employees of an organization or students of a specific school or area.

So you use the targetting options wisely.

When you target different audiences you may wanna create seperate ads for one target audience and on other one for an other audience.

Why?

So you will be able to see the data seperately from those individual groups and you will be able to fine tune your advertising much better.

You may find out that one group is not converting into sales at all, even though you thought it would but it does not.

So what do you want to do with those?

If you still find it profitable keep it running. If not, turn it off and spend your advertising where it is profitable. Simple.

You need to test. Try different forms of posts (videos, photos, text only) and see what happens. That's how you will get better results over time.

Maybe you start out advertising today completely unprofitable but after a while you will see where the profits come from and once you start to focus on those groups and posts your profits will go through the roof.

You can't give it up after 2 days and say it doesn't work. You have to make it work. And unfortunately, at the beginning your conversions will be worse.

But if you keep doing it you will learn and you will get better and better.

That's what I call the 80/20 rule. It's like a sculpture you have to get rid of some parts to get the final product. And the final product is your advertising is profitable.

If you want free advertising on Facebook you can literally go to every Facebook page where you think you will find your audience and comment valuable information on their posts. Become part of the conversation.

You will need to listen to what your people are saying and respond to them valuable comments.

There is no shortcut to have a successful Facebook page. It takes time to build it up. You need to learn you need to try things you need to test and you need to listen to what people are saying on your page and on other pages.

So go ahead and work on it. And once you have a decent following keep providing valuable content otherwise your followers will leave.
